When Unity students refer to “Christ,” they are referring to a timeless divine idea. When other Christians refer to “Christ,” they are referring to a man who walked the earth about 2000 years ago. Unity, although it honours and respects all religious beliefs, really does differ in some important ways from mainstream Christianity. At a time when distinctions between Unity and other Christian movements appear less obvious than they once did, it is important to develop a clear understanding of the Christ, one of Unity’s most essential and distinctive teachings.
This course deals with a limited number of scripture texts chosen to present the Christ idea concisely yet still comprehensively. The primary goal of the course is to help you develop an effective understanding of what the Christ is and how you are part of the Christ idea.
Whether you are a beginning Unity student or have studied Unity teachings extensively, you will, as you work through these lessons, develop both a “head” and a “heart” understanding of the Christ. You will gain powerful insight into what Unity believes it means to be a Christian.
Rev Tom Thorpe has been teaching and serving in Unity for over 35 years. He has a wealth of experience teaching at Unity World Headquarters within the SEE programme and Ministerial training, alongside serving Unity churches in America. Tom’s joy is to share what he knows and has been teaching in the UK for over 7 years. He is looking forward to working with us again, in person, this spring.
