God is the life and light within us, always
There is no doubt that 2020 has been a year like no other. We have seen hardship and suffering, loss and death, and perhaps experienced it ourselves. Yet we have also seen communities coming together like never before – people stepping up to support those in need around them, which has warmed our hearts and touched our souls.
As the New Year dawns, it may feel as if this last one is the year to forget. However, there are times to celebrate, like seeing our loved ones again. Simple pleasures that have taken on greater meaning and importance to us.
Further, we have each, perhaps, found greater strength in ourselves; a deeper compassion; even a new focus. These qualities build up our own sense of self and support our communities.
Without doubt, we have been reminded how important it is to remember that God is in the midst of every experience.
This is the light to hold onto – the light that guides us through the darkness; out of the tunnel-like experience and moving forward in a new way, perhaps with new scenery and experiences in front of us, to share and enjoy. For as taught in Scripture, God, the Lord, is always here in our midst, and when we seek with all our heart and mind, we shall find.
(Deuteronomy 4:29, Jeremiah 29:13, Matthew 7:7)
Many who called the prayer line in 2020 spoke about how important their faith is: how their faith has seen them through.
It is our faith that helps us see the light that shines in the darkness. It is our practice of faith, through seeking, asking and finding, that keeps us focused on the light, here in our midst, even if we do not, at that moment, see it.
So, as we move into 2021, let us place God first in our minds and hearts. If we find ourselves going through an experience of pain and darkness, let us seek and know God with all our heart, mind and soul, with kindness, courage and compassion.
Further, let us know that in the seeking, we will find God, here within us, as our strength, support, life, light, love and abiding peace. Out of this deeply personal experience of God, our way ahead is lit up. We find all we need within us, plus the joy of helping our neighbour find their way, too. For as we give, we most definitely receive.
Our prayer in Silent Unity for you, our world leaders and for everyone as we enter 2021 is that we remember, no matter what is happening that God is here in our midst: within and around us, sometimes carrying us, always guiding, supporting and filling us. God is the life and light within us all, which we can always call on for the good of all.
