Would you agree that one of the most difficult things for the human race to do is let go of old grievances and beliefs? Rosemary Fillmore Rhea, in the book New Thought for a New Millennium wrote,
“History has shown that we are often willing to live unhappy, limited lives – or even to die – rather than to change our beliefs, to see things in a new way, to release the old in favour of the new.”
Perhaps this is because we don’t want to see how we are contributing to the problem by holding on. It is the other person who is wrong! Yet Gandhi reminded us that if everyone practiced an eye-for-an-eye morality, the whole world would be blind. Jesus taught us to love our enemies, turn the other cheek and go the second mile.
It is a great person who can say I am sorry for my part in this – let us find a new way together through understanding and forgiveness. To look back at our lives and admit that our old way of thinking and responding did not work and commit to finding a new way. To renounce old blame patterns that keep reliving the old story.
Yet here is true freedom and an open door to peace. We can all do this when we call on the great power of universal Life and Love – God – to guide and direct us in a new way. And more – know we are one with this power when we choose to act with it.
If we want to see peace in the world, we begin with us, in our lives today. Dear friend, let us renounce vengeance and be the expression of forgiveness and peace.
