As we move into this New Year, do we have the divine audacity to claim our spiritual magnificence?
We have just finished Christmas, and celebrated the re-birth of the Christ presence not just in us, but becoming us more fully. In other words, this means we are not simply putting on a cloak, we are becoming the cloak.
Can we follow this by recognising and claiming our magnificence, as beloved expressions or extensions of God? For this is the next step, made in faith, that “The Father and I are one” (John 10:30).
When the followers of Jesus heard him say this, some of them decided it must mean he was the only son of God. However others, like us in Unity, came to realise and accept that he was speaking for all of us. Indeed we believe all that Jesus said and did was to help us all know this wonderful truth for ourselves.
“I claim my magnificence now!”
When you read this does your heart soar and your mind lift with the infinite possibilities it contains? Are you getting excited? If you are like me, my mind and heart says “Yes!” immediately. However it does not seem to take very long before my human mind comes in and whispers – not you, what do you mean, who do you think you are! These are the echoes of human voices who did not understand what this really means.
For it does not mean that I am more magnificent than you – it means we are ALL magnificent spiritual beings – every single one of us. Therefore we can say this with love and humility, too. We are ALL beloved of God, no matter who we are, what we have done, or where we live. We are ALL magnificent, unique, beloved, expressions of the One, of God. We can choose to live this way, or not.
In John 8: 12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world”, and invites his followers to follow in his path and do all that he taught and lived so that they too “will have the light of life”. And in Matthew 5:14 Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.”
This light is the God-light, which is magnificent, brilliant and available right now for us to live and know as OUR truth. Now is the time to claim and recognise our divinity, to claim our magnificence: To move through and release all that seems to want to stop the light in us (our own fears, guilt and anger when we feel separate from God as Love). We can let the Love of God dissolve all of this, so we can recognise and live the Light we all are.
How can you shine your light this year? How can you become your true magnificent SELF, live your highest dreams and be true to the Light in you and everyone around you? The first step is to be willing – to have faith that this is true and let the still small voice of God in your heart lead you forward. To accept that you are indeed beloved of God and that you are here for a divine purpose – to let your light and love shine so that others may also know and live the truth for themselves also.
This will be our focus during our January Burning Bowl service, when we will move through a simple yet profound experience that really empowers this action.
Wherever you are, Dear One, let your light shine. Claim your magnificence as a beloved expression of God, and begin to know this for everyone around you. Together let us light up the world and be the change we wish to see.
