WHAt I AM GRATEFUL FOR......

At the discussion on Tuesday evening i was asked us to send Unity things which we are grateful for. I am grateful for so many things, far too many to list, but here are three of them:

  1. My ability to still do shorthand even though I don’t practise it as often as should. How embarrassing to mistake the outline for “postman” as “parking meter” !!  I can’t get over that!
  2. My ability to play music, compose music and, most importantly, to share music with others.
  3. My new vacuum cleaner which I purchased a few months ago as my old Electrolux was long overdue for retirement. It had been in the family since before I was born and belonged to my grandmother. They made them to last in those days. Occasionally I had needed to rewire it and put in a new motor, but the suction was getting weaker and weaker. I haven’t thrown it out because it is an early model and I would feel sad just to throw it away, so I shall see whether any vacuum cleaner museum might like it. My new one, Edgar, is brilliant, although he is not very happy that I changed his name. He keeps telling me that his name is Henry but to me that doesn’t suit him. Edgar is much better. Edgar Hoover. Get it?

I love this so much! I completely understand. Things that have been with us for so long, in and through that strange, heart-tugging country called ‘the past’, they become as faithful companions, and mean far more to us than their mere functions. We join with them at some level, or that is how it feels. I don’t think you can feel something without it being somehow reality, and I wonder at how many ‘things’ that we have come to care for, to consider friends on this earth, will one day be found in our heavenly dwelling, welcoming us home.
Thank you so much for your post.
