Hello and thank you for welcoming me to the Unity UK family. as your guest. My first 17 years of studying and practicing Unity principles was through a UFBL (Universal Foundation for Better Living) church. If you haven’t heard of it, UFBL was founded by Rev. Dr. Johnnie Colemon. She was ordained at Unity Village in the mid 1950’s. I encourage you to look up some of her powerful lessons on YouTube.
I had not heard of World Day of Prayer until I became the Senior Minister for Unity in Greensboro. Now I think of September as the month of prayer, although prayer is needed every day of every month to keep us aligned with our spiritual Truth. However, September serves as a perfectly good month to focus on how and why Unity teaches us affirmative prayer. as Unity’s gift of affirmative prayer was a welcomed change for me. To go from “God, please help me” to “Through the power of God in and through me, I affirm” shifted so much in how I live, move, and breathe. It gives our minds a stronger focus on the promises of life. As Ernest Holmes taught in Science of Mind, “Change your thinking, change your life.” Our co-founder, Charles Fillmore, said, “I reserve the right to change my mind” teaching us that any of our conditions or situations in life can be changed! Isn’t that good news? The theme for this year’s World Day of Prayer is Love is Alive. Silent Unity has given us the affirmation, “Love leads me. Faith steadies me. Prayer carries me forward.” As we move into September, and as often as possible afterwards, let us affirm together that divine love will guide us whenever we invite it into our decision making. Our faith will steady us, in both joyous and troubling times, when we remind ourselves that God is fully present in our lives. And, when we use our preferred method of communicating with the divine presence within us that affirmative prayer will move us in the most helpful directions. Lovingly, Rev.
