Charles Fillmore wrote that sin is simply error thinking – missing the mark - which we do when we forget that we are first and foremost, divine beings having human experiences. Thinking we are, or even can be, separate from God and all that God is. I would suggest that pretty much, every human being does this. We are born into a world that seems separate and outside of us and we soon forget that we are one with God and our divinity. For how beautiful, yet demanding, our world is. Because we all do this, it cannot be a mistake, so it is not wrong. We have been given the amazing opportunity to wake up and remember who we are; here to live a life that is creative, energetic, loving and wise. A few people like the Dalai Lama and Jesus are born with this remembering. I am sure this is why, at the age of 12, Jesus stayed in his father’s temple when the family left to go home. It also means that if it is true for them, it is true for us, too. Matthew Fox writes in his book, Original Blessing, (P47) “We enter a broken and torn and sinful world – that is for sure. But we do not enter as blotches on existence, as sinful creatures, we burst into the world as original blessings.” Anyone who has witnessed the birth of a child (or in my case the birth of many lambs!) experiences profound joy and love – so much that we can feel almost overwhelmed with it all. Our hearts are broken open and love pours forth. I suggest this is why we are here - to be joyful expressions of the divine. The invitation, from both of these amazing men, and from so many others, is to see ourselves as original blessings. Can you take this thought and see where it leads you? Let us all show up as original blessings, expressing the divine in our own unique, yet powerful, way. Hi Kimerie, I just wanted to say how much your message on Original Blessing resonated with me, especially alongside what we discussed at church this week and my own reflection that I’ve attached.
