Not my will, but Thy will be done

These words of Jesus, reportedly spoken on the cross, are a reminder to me, to always put God first.

Jesus fully surrendered into God’s presence, after expressing his grief, loss and fear. Ultimately, for me, it is these words that set him free.

For me, when I find myself in situations which can feel like being crucified; when they feel like too much to bear, or I do not understand what is happening and why, the very best thing I believe I can do, is surrender into divine will.

As human beings, we are so used to organising, arranging and dictating what we want to happen, we forget that we do not know the whole picture and cannot know what is best.

We forget, or perhaps have never known, that God’s will for us is only good.  And that by surrendering into divine will, we are surrendering into divine love, which can only bring forth more love and more good.

Then, we move our feet – we follow through as we are guided to do, which leads us to our next step, and so on.

The other thing I have learned recently, is the expression, relentless empathy. When we have been upset or traumatised in any way, the only healing tool is unconditional love.

Learning to absolutely love ourselves, and being with those who unconditionally love us, enables us to love those around us. Jesus did this on the cross – father, forgive them for they know not what they do.

My prayer is that humanity finds a way to know itself as love – to embrace and share love, and through love, surrender into the divine which is only here for our united good.
