One of my favourite Daily Words is ‘Divine Guidance’ although I know that sometimes it can be difficult to have faith and trust that we will indeed receive the guidance we seek. When times are challenging especially, our mind has a tendency to take over and try to come up with it’s own answers, not accepting that it probably doesn’t have the big picture! I think this is where Divine Guidance comes in, if we let it.
Being guided by Spirit has been an important part of my life for as long as I remember and, several years ago, when I trained as an Interfaith Minister, I even included it as part of my final vow. Well, in 2020 (during lockdown) Spirit decided to really hold me to that vow! Towards the end of my training, I was diagnosed with a rare-ish cancer that required major surgery - hands down the most traumatic experience of my life. But, fresh from Ordination, I was determined to use the experience to grow and to take notice of any guidance that came my way. And come it did! About 2 months into my recovery, I heard this voice say "you should paint”. Now, although I have always been creative, I had avoided painting and drawing since school. I had a very strong belief that I was ‘no good’ and was also fearful of judgement, so the words came as a big surprise! But I decided to put aside my negative beliefs and followed the guidance even though with each new step I took, I often felt anxious. However, every single time I listened and took action, I grew in confidence and also spiritually. Long story short, I started painting and now, 4 years on I am a member of two local community galleries, regularly take part in exhibitions and have even sold many of my paintings. Earlier this year, I was invited to join the voluntary steering group for one of the galleries and am now helping to develop their community workshop programme. Could I have anticipated or planned this myself? Almost certainly not. I’m pretty sure I would have been stuck with my limiting beliefs and fear of being judged and never accepted the challenge of growing. But by listening to, and following Divine Guidance, I have done things I never thought possible and now I have the opportunity to give back to my community too. So, is there something you’re being guided to do but are hesitating? Or is your mind in charge at the moment? By taking some time daily to get still, go within and listen carefully, I’m certain Divine Guidance will show you the way.
