“Forgiveness is the path to freedom.”
The scene of Jesus carrying the cross through the streets of Jerusalem, with the ring of thorns on his head, is a vivid one and has a huge connotation of suffering. Deliberately so.
As I saw this scene again in the newly released film, Mary Magdalene, I suddenly saw this scene in a new way:
We carry the heavy burden of our cross when we carry the burden of judgement, condemnation and non-forgiveness. It is awful to witness and hurts us as we do it.
And the ring of thorns represents the sharp and critical thoughts we hold in our minds, that hurt and damage us, and anyone who happens to share them with us.
Perhaps our work is to put the cross down.
Our forthcoming Unity Spring retreat at The Kairos Retreat Centre, SW London, will be the perfect time to experience forgiveness and put our cross down. Join us, share in spiritual community and communion with God, and know the love and peace of God as your truth, with us.
If you would like to spend time in prayer and silence with us at Silent Unity in the UK, and you have access to a smart phone, tablet or computer, you can now do so.
From 9.00-9.30 am and 12.00-12.30 pm, Monday to Friday, join our prayer services and be part of something bigger than our selves. We are honoured to sit together in prayer and stillness with you
