“I parent myself with love and wisdom.”
“Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you.”
Our physical parents were the means through which we entered into this life. And it is good that we honour and respect them.
However, when Eric Butterworth breaks through this commandment, he encourages us to look at our own inner parenting process, and that we should hold respect for that. He says that our thoughts and actions are the parents of our future lives. So it is important for us to know this and make the choices that will determine the experiences we want to have. In Unity we understand that choices made using our divine powers of wisdom (seen as male) and love (seen as female) lead to choices for the highest and best, for ourselves and for all concerned.
Eric writes that as we grow in spiritual awareness and understand that all persons are one with the One, that self-respect and respect for others will grow and become strong, and we will live out the spirit of the commandment. By honouring the father/mother within each of us, we will be raising collective consciousness.
