First published in 1969, Unity’s Book of Silent Prayer quickly became a cherished companion for generations of Unity members.  A rich and thoughtful compilation of Unity prayers, reflections, verse, Biblical readings and affirmations for different occasions – it was also modestly priced and small enough to carry around in a jacket pocket or handbag.

Some years ago this publication went out of print. There were new compilations published, notably Unity’s booklet, Prayers, Blessings and Meditations, but none quite captured readers’ hearts and imaginations here in the UK as Unity’s original volume.

Even today, years after The Book of Silent Prayer went out of print, we still get phone calls or letters inquiring about it. Mindful of this, we have decided to present here on the Unity website, a short selection of some of the best prayers, Biblical texts and meditations from the original, here presented in the form of eight short YouTube videos, the words read by Steve Gough, Sheila Ross and Patricia Rosser – and accompanied by restful natural images and sounds.

Just a few days after publishing this webpage, we learnt that Unity Village in the US had finally published a brand new collection, entitled The Book of Silent Prayer…. The booklet is now available from Unity in the UK. To order your copy click here

And as you listen and watch the videos you may like to know that the  natural sounds and landscapes used throughout the films were recorded over Easter week, 2015, on the remote island of Caldy off the coast of West Wales, a place of great ‘Silent Peace’, having been the home of Cistercian monks (a silent order) for over 1200 years….
